Want to know when you might be able to see some of the movies that you might be interested in seeing? Yes? That’s good, because we’ve got somewhat of a release date round-up for you.
First up is Warner Bros’ "Lego" movie – a movie that we’d be completely put off by were it not for the fact that Phil Lord & Chris Miller (“21 Jump Street,” “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs”) have written the screenplay, and will also direct the CGI film about the little plastic building blocks. The studio have penciled the movie in for a Feb 28th release date in 2014 – a date that, for the time being, they have all to themselves, although ironically, "Cloudy 2: Revenge of the Leftovers," the sequel to their debut, which they're producing, is currently set to land three weeks earlier, on February 7th.
The studio have also set aside a date for Brian Helgeland’s Jackie Robinson biopic, “42,” and it will coincide with Major League Baseball’s Jackie Robinson Day. The day takes place each year on April 15th to commemorate Robinson’s first game in the MLB back in 1947 when he became the sport’s first black MLB player, appearing for the Brooklyn Dodgers. The film – which will star relative newcomer Chadwick Boseman as Robinson, and Harrison Ford as the team’s GM – will make its bow three days prior to that, on April 12th 2013, lining up opposite that “Evil Dead” remake.
Sundance hit “Celeste and Jesse Forever,” which was picked up by Sony Pictures Classics earlier in the year, has been given a release date too, and it’s not all that far in the future. The Rashida Jones/Andy Samberg-led comedy-drama has been handed an August 3rd release date – little more than three months from now. We liked the film quite a bit when we caught it at Sundance
And finally, The Weinstein Company has set dates for three animated films in 2013. “Leo the Lion” will roar on August 13th, “The Trick or Treaters” will unsurprisingly appear in the lead-up to Halloween on October 25th, and “Santapprentice” will rip-off “Arthur Christmas” on December 6th.
