Dan Gilroy, like his older brother Tony, has spent years working in Hollywood as a screenwriter, contributing to major movies like “Real Steel” and “The Bourne Legacy.” Now it looks as if he will follow in his brother’s footsteps by making the move towards directing.
The film he’s attached to, which he also wrote, is “Nightcrawler” and it stars Rene Russo (who is also his wife) and Jake Gyllenhaal. The project is very much a family affair and he’ll be working alongside his brother Tony, who’ll be producing, and also John Gilroy (“The Bourne Legacy”, “Warrior,”) who’ll be working as editor on the project.
“Nightcrawler” tells the story of a driven young man (Gyllenhaal) who discovers the nocturnal world of freelance crime journalism in Los Angeles. Filming is set to begin in late October with Robert Elswit chalked up to be behind the lens. The movie will be up for grabs at the Cannes Film Market next month. At any rate, if Gilroy has any difficulties then he certainly has a fair amount of talent to back him up. We’ll see how it all pans out when it hopefully comes out next year. [THR/Variety]
