Director James Mangold is about to complete the final leg of photography on Disney‘s “Indiana Jones 5,” but he’s already developing yet another biopic after helming movies such as “Ford v Ferarri” and movie “Walk The Line.” His next project will explore a Hollywood icon, Buster Keaton.
Deadline reports that Mangold is going to direct and produce a feature film focused on the life of Buster Keaton, the legendary film star that did his own stunts and was sort of doing Jackie Chan-level daredevil acts for the entertainment of audiences before it was commonplace. Helping to establish the action genre in the early days of Hollywood. He’s no stranger to action himself with pics such as “3:10 To Yuma” and “Logan” to name a few under his belt. The untitled movie is based on the book “Buster Keaton: Cut To The Chase“ by Marion Meade.
Mangold was recently tasked to replace Steven Spielberg on a fifth and potentially final “Indiana Jones” installment starring Harrison Ford, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Antonio Banderas, and Mads Mikkelsen. That has been spending most of its time shooting in the United Kingdom and is set to be released on June 30, 2023.
Another project he was developing was an adaptation of author Don Winslow‘s cop novel “The Force” with Matt Damon attached to star.
It’ll be interesting to see who they’ll cast as Buster Keaton, a young Johnny Knoxville would have been perfect given how “Jackass” is essentially a crude version of what Keaton was doing in the silent film era for the MTV generation.
