Got a Tip?

James Wan Is Reportedly Waiting For An ‘Aquaman 2’ Script Before Deciding Whether To Come Back

Coming as a shock to exactly zero people, Warner Bros. has noticed the massive box office success of “Aquaman” and would like to move forward on a sequel. However, what may strike fans as surprising is that James Wan hasn’t decided whether or not he’ll come back.

Deadline is reporting that a deal hasn’t been done for Wan’s return to the “Aquaman” franchise yet, but the director is keen on coming back. That being said, the filmmaker is only interested in coming back if the script is in good shape…and the price is right.

You see, just like what happened with Patty Jenkins, WB is going to have to back up a dump truck full of cash to entice Wan to return to the fish man franchise. However, this time, WB might have to order two dump trucks. That’s because “Aquaman” has not only outgrossed Jenkins’ “Wonder Woman” by a staggering $250 million, but is only a mere $9 million from becoming the biggest DC superhero film of all time, passing Christopher Nolan’sThe Dark Knight Rises.”

All told, we’re looking at the very real possibility that “Aquaman” ends its run close to $1.2 billion worldwide, which is nothing short of a monumental success for WB. So, in the case of Wan coming back for “Aquaman 2,” the director holds all the power. So, as the report specifies, the director is taking a bit of a break before deciding what’s next and will definitely wait until he sees a script for a sequel before negotiating a return.

And boy, oh boy, what a negotiation that’s going to be. Regardless of the critical reception, and fan division, over the film, “Aquaman” is the new bright, shiny jewel in the DC superhero film universe. It would appear that Wan is just setting himself up for a pretty incredible payday. And he, no doubt, deserves every penny.
