Reitman’s film will be called “SNL 1975,” based on the real-life behind-the-scenes accounts of the opening night of “Saturday Night Live.” Reitman pens the movie’s script with Gil Kenan, with the pair using extensive interviews from all the living cast, writers, and crew that worked the show as material. Here’s a juice synopsis for “SNL 1975,” courtesy of Deadline:

On October 11th, 1975, a ferocious troupe of young comedians and writers changed television forever. This is the true story of what happened that night behind the scenes in the moments leading up to the first broadcast of SNL. The chaos and magic of a revolution that almost wasn’t, as we countdown the minutes in real time to the infamous words, Live From New York, it’s Saturday Night.

There’s no news on who will join LaBelle, Hoffman, and Sennott on Reitman’s film, but expect more casting news in the coming days. Reitman and Kenan lead producers with Jason BlumenfeldErica Mills, and Peter Rice.

A young Lorne Michaels is a huge coup for Gabriel LaBelle, fresh off his breakout performance in Steven Spielberg‘s “The Fabelmans.” LaBelle also has “The Shake Shack” on the way too, filming now. As for Hoffmann, his breakout happened with P.T. Anderson‘s 2021 film “Licorice Pizza.” He stars next in Ethan Hawke‘s “Wildcat,” which premiered at TIFF last September, and “Old Guy” alongside Christoph Waltz. As for Sennott, she starred in “Bottoms” and “The Idol” last year after “Shiva Baby” put her on the map in 2020. Up next for Sennott?  Prime Video‘s thriller “Holland, Michigan” with Nicole Kidman.

If Reitman starts shooting “SNL 1975” soon, expect an awards season release for it later this year. And expect this time to be a potential star-maker for its leading trio.
