Javier Bardem In Talks To Lead The Fremen In Denis Villeneuve's 'Dune'

And the rich keep getting richer, apparently. A new day comes and with it, yet another A-list actor is set to join Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming “Dune” adaptation. This time, we can add Javier Bardem to the list of stars that are venturing to the faraway planet of Arrakis.

According to THR, Bardem is the latest actor to sign on to the project. If the deal goes through, the Spanish actor will play Stilgar, the leader of the nomadic tribes known as the Fremen. He will come face-to-face with Timothée Chalamet’s Paul Atreides, as the young heir to the throne of the planet finds himself on the run, and living amongst the desert people. As mentioned before, “Dune” tells the story of the fight for Arrakis, the distant planet that is the only source of the universe’s most-coveted product, known as “spice.”

Bardem is a very accomplished actor, with dozens of roles under his belt. He’s probably best known for his work in films like “Before Night Falls,” “Skyfall,” and of course, “No Country for Old Men,” which earned Bardem an Oscar.

Bardem joins Chalamet and an all-star cast that includes Zendaya, Oscar Isaac, Rebecca Ferguson, Charlotte Rampling, Dave Bautista, and Stellan Skarsgård. And honestly, at this rate, there’s probably one or two more A-listers that have yet to be announced.

“Dune” is written by Villeneuve, Eric Roth, and Jon Spaihts, based on the famous sci-fi novel by Frank Herbert. Filming is set to begin later this year, and will find the production moving to locations in Budapest and Jordan, as Villeneuve attempts to simulate the desert wasteland conditions on the fictional planet.
