Jennifer Lopez To Star In Strip Club Crime Film 'Hustlers' From Director Lorene Scafaria

Jennifer Lopez’s filmography is a bit of a rollercoaster. There are some really decent movies like “Selena” and “Out of Sight.” But those films are buried under what feels like a ton of other middling rom-coms and thrillers. Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the actress/singer/celebrity is hoping to bring home a quality film with her next movie “Hustlers.”

The film, based on the New York magazine article titled “Hustlers at Scores,” tells the true story of a group of former strip club employees that create a scheme to steal tens of thousands of dollars from their Wall Street clientele. Lopez will play a former dancer who brings together the group of women and leads the way.

‘Hustlers’ is written and directed by Lorene Scafaria, who is best known for her directorial debut “Seeking a Friend for the End of the World” and for writing “Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist.” However, with her new film, the writer-director is hoping to use the ‘Robin Hood’-esque story to shine a light on the perceived roles of women in society.

“The film is an empathetic look at women and men, our gender roles, what we’re valued for, what we’ve been told is our value in every movie, TV show, every corner of culture. Men have been told they’re worth the size of their bank accounts. Women have been told they’re worth the symmetry of their faces, their bodies, their beauty and that’s what this film is based on. The rules of the club are the rules of the world,” said Scafaria.

Scafaria is most interested in working with Lopez because she honestly believes that the actress is the perfect person to play the role. “There is no other actor who could embody this raw and dynamic character with such complexity, humanity and intelligence. It’s always been her. She’s fucking Jennifer Lopez.” Scafaria added.

There’s no release date set for the film.
