'Joe Vs. Carole' Trailer: Kate McKinnon & John Cameron Mitchell Star In The Joe Exotic: Tiger King Story

Given that Joe Exotic was resentenced to 21 years in prison last Friday for the failed murder-for-hire plot targeting animal rights activist Carole Baskin, according to the New York Times, the timing of a new “Joe Vs. Carole” trailer is pretty perfectly timed. To back up slightly, unless you’ve been living under a rock, you probably know the story of the Netflix phenomenon, “Tiger King,” a docu-series that took pop culture by storm during the pandemic, centering on the story of exotic animal lover Joe Exotic and the animal rights activist Carole Baskin that he butts heads with. As the opening suggests, their feud got a little bit out of hand, and Exotic is now in jail.

With its larger-than-life characters, this wild story truly captured the attention of the culture in 2020, so it’s no wonder the story is being dramatized in a live-action setting. Created by Etan Frankel and starring John Cameron Mitchell and Kate McKinnon, as Exotic and Baskin, respectively, all eight hour-long episodes of the limited series will premiere on Peacock on Thursday, March 3. The drama takes a comprehensive dive into the lives of Joe Exotic and Carole Baskin, telling the stories of these two larger-than-life personalities with outstanding performances by an all-star cast. That supporting cast includes Kyle MacLachlan, Brian Van Holt, Sam Keeley, Nat Wolff, Marlo Kelly, William Fichtner, Dean Winters, and David Wenham.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Based on the Wondery podcast “Joe Exotic: Tiger King,” hosted and reported by Robert Moor, the limited series will center on Carole Baskin, a big cat enthusiast, who learns that fellow exotic animal lover Joe “Exotic” Schreibvogel is breeding and using his big cats for profit. She sets out to shut down his venture, inciting a quickly escalating rivalry. But Carole has a checkered past of her own, and when the claws come out, Joe will stop at nothing to expose what he sees as her hypocrisy. The results prove dangerous.

“JOE vs. CAROLE is a wild ride. It’s a fun and rich journey into the story of people who live very extreme lives,” Frankel said in a statement. Meanwhile, the full official trailer is here, and March 3 is not that far away, so get hype for the dramatic retelling of this nutty story of rivalries, revenge, and more.
