It’s okay to like a movie if other people don’t, and vice versa. However, in this world where movie criticism has become about consensus and assembling teams either for or against a film, it can be lonely out there if you dare to disagree. John Boyega has found this out the hard way with an innocent tweet about “Bright.”
The actor, likely just trying to kick back after a gruelling promotional cycle for “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” wanted to let the interwebs know he liked “Bright” — big mistake. The actor defended his position, and stuck to his guns for his admiration of “Bright,” but the interweb wanted to let him know his opinion was wrong and the movie sucks:
Lord! Just watched Bright! That was amazing !

Dude I wasn’t talking about Star Wars. I was talking about how much I enjoyed bright. Thanks though

Interesting mentality you’ve got there

This is all pretty silly. If Boyega enjoyed the movie, then cool for him, but this sort of exhausting culture of those who police opinion is somewhat tiring. For what it’s worth, and in Boyega’s defense, the film is scoring far better with audiences on Rotten Tomatoes than critics (89% versus 28%; basically the reverse of that whole ‘The Last Jedi’ situation). So maybe Netflix isn’t so crazy about working on a sequel. Or, online trolls are really wasting their efforts on some pretty dumb stuff.
