John Boyega Lands Lead Role In Military Drama '892'

After exiting the Netflix film “Rebel Ridge” directed by Jeremy Saulnier (“Green Room“), British actor John Boyega (“Detroit“) is reportedly looking to help out an indie drama that was about to collapse if they couldn’t find a new leading man.

We now know what project Boyega will make after leaving “Rebel Ridge” as The Hollywood Reporter says he’s joined the indie military drama “892” taking a lead role vacated by Jonathan Majors (“White Boy Rick,” “Da 5 Bloods,” “Lovecraft Country“). The actor joining the project has saved it from not being able to land financing.

The rising star had to exit because of a scheduling issue with the Marvel Studios sequel “Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantuamania,” which is shooting in London and will continue throughout the summer. Majors plays the time-jumping multiverse villain Kang The Conqueror in the sequel and is expected to have become the next big MCU baddie similar to Josh Brolin‘s Thanos.

“892” quietly begun shooting this week in Los Angeles with director Abi Damaris Corbin behind the camera. Other cast members include Michael K Williams (“The Wire“), Nicole BeharieSelenis Leyva, and Olivia Washington.

Corbin co-wrote the film’s script alongside Kwame Kwei-Armah. The outlet adds the drama “follows a Marine war veteran who faces mental and emotional challenges when he tries to reintegrate back into civilian life.”
