Jonathan Majors To Face Off Against Michael B. Jordan In 'Creed III'

Jonathan Majors is having a moment. Not only is he the star of the popular HBO series, “Lovecraft Country,” but he’s also about to have one hell of a slate of feature films that are arriving over the next couple of years, apparently including a co-starring role in the upcoming “Creed III.”

According to Deadline, Jonathan Majors is in talks to join the upcoming “Creed III.” The report claims that Majors will star opposite Michael B. Jordan as the star’s opponent in the boxing ring. Obviously, it’s far too early to know the reasons for the fight and what the emotional stakes are, but just adding Majors to the cast is a huge addition and further proof that “Creed III” is a film that is definitely worth getting excited about.

“Creed III” follows the continuing story of Adonis Creed, the son of Apollo Creed, as he deals with the legacy of his legendary father. Previously, Sylvester Stallone starred in the first two films as Rocky Balboa, a mentor for the young father, but the actor won’t be joining the third feature. Tessa Thompson and Phylicia Rashad are both returning, however.

In addition to “Lovecraft Country,” Majors also starred in the critically acclaimed drama, “The Last Black Man in San Francisco,” as well as Spike Lee’s “Da 5 Bloods.” He’s turned those breakout roles into a big-time career, landing parts in the upcoming Marvel Studios film, “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” Netflix’s star-studded Western, “The Harder They Fall,” and the film, “Devotion.”

The report claims that the only issue that would likely stop Majors from securing the role in “Creed III” is scheduling, considering his busy schedule over the next year. Michael B. Jordan is not only starring in the film, but he’s also directing, and the studio has nailed down a 2022 release date for the sequel already. “Creed III” is written by Zach Baylin and Keenan Coogler.

“Creed III” is scheduled to hit theaters on November 23, 2022.
