The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has found two stars willing to spend a Saturday night handing out Oscars to the winners of the 2017 Scientific and Technical Awards. Leslie Mann (“This is Forty”) and John Cho (“Star Trek”) will bestow 18 different awards to 34 recipients in a ceremony on February, 11 in Beverly Hills.
The event is never televised or streamed, but in recent years Margot Robbie, Charlize Theron, Jennifer Garner and Scarlett Johansson have brought some star power as hosts.
In a statement, Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs noted, “We’re so excited to have John and Leslie join us as hosts for this year’s Scientific and Technical Awards. It’s one of our favorite, and most talked about events each Oscar season, and John and Leslie’s humor and refreshing take on the honorees will be a perfect addition to a night where we celebrate our colleagues’ groundbreaking scientific and technical achievements.”
Cho most recently starred in “Star Trek Beyond” which earned a nomination for Best Makeup and Hairstyling this year. His other credits include “Grandma,” “Star Trek Into Darkness,” “Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle,” American Pie” and 1999 Best Picture winner “American Beauty.”
Mann appears opposite Robert De Niro in Taylor Hackford’s “The Comedian” which opens in limited release today. Her feature film credits include “How to Be Single,” “The Other Woman,” and “Knocked Up,” as well as the animated features “Rio 2” and the Oscar-nominated “ParaNorman.”
The 89th Academy Awards will be held on Sunday, February 26th at 5:00 PT, 8:00 ET on ABC.
