NBC’s “The Office” was one of the rare instances when a British export turns into a hit U.S. TV series. While the British version of “The Office” is viewed by many as superior, there’s still a huge following of American ‘Office’ fans that plow through all nine seasons of the show over and over again. A big reason for this devotion is the relationship between two of the Dunder Mifflin employees, Jim, played by actor John Krasinski, and Pam, played by Jenna Fischer.
Now, almost five years after the finale, Krasinski is talking about whether or not he’d want to return to Dunder Mifflin and how it could even happen. “I would totally be interested!” Krasinski said in an interview with The Wrap. “I still have yet to get a call. I am surprised that after ‘Ellen’ and all that — I haven’t gotten a call, so I haven’t heard anything about it, other than on the internet — the internet is making the show. Twitter is shooting ‘The Office’ reboot. I don’t know if any of us are going to be a part of it!”
Krasinski even went a step further and discussed what type of reboot/revival he’d want for the series. He’s not interested in a whole season of the new show, but perhaps to follow in the footsteps of the British series.
“Every single day, people said, ‘By the end, were you guys kind of tired of each other?’ I was like, ‘No no no, we had the most fun up until the last day.’ I would love to play with those guys again and do something. It really comes down to the idea… the original British show, the best thing was they had a Christmas episode — it was a one-off. I would love to do that. I think it would be a sort of ‘Where Are They Now’ kind of thing. That would be really fun,” said the actor.
For those that don’t know, the British ‘Office’ consisted of two short seasons and a Christmas special. The Christmas episode served as a series finale and is one of the series’ best episodes. Coming back for a new original film is an easy way for the series to return, and would perhaps be the only way to reunite many of the cast, since many have moved on to have successful careers since the 2013 series finale.
Recently, NBC has gotten into the reboot game with “Will and Grace,” so it’s not a completely crazy idea to think they’d be interested in bringing “The Office” back. And if NBC isn’t willing to do it, Netflix apparently is willing to fund anything, so why not this? Let’s make it happen!
