The Daniels‘ upcoming event movie at Universal will be an “Odyssey” reunion for star Matt Damon. Deadline reports that Damon’s co-star on Christopher Nolan‘s blockbuster, John Leguizamo, is the latest name to join the much-anticipated film. Leguizamo joins the previously announced Damon, Sandra Oh, Sean Kaufman, Michael Gandolfini, and Charles Melton, although his role (much like everything involving this film) remains under wraps.
The Daniels (Daniel Kwan, Daniel Scheinert) produce the film with Jonathan Wang via their Playgrounds banner, part of their overall deal with Universal. Sara Scott and Jacqueline Garell oversee the film for the studio. Universal currently has the pic set for a November 19, 2027 theatrical release. Shooting on the film starts later this year.
With this new casting, Leguizamo continues his run of recent films with Universal. Beyond “The Odyssey,” the actor also stars in Mike Flanagan‘s upcoming “The Exorcist: Martyrs” opposite Scarlett Johansson; that film bows on March 12, 2027. Leguizamo also has voice roles in “Ice Age: Boiling Point” and “The Adventures Of Drunky,” as well as “Bullet Catch,” an independent film starring him and his daughter, Allegra Leguizamo.
Will this be the last major casting for the Daniels’ next film? Stay tuned on that. Hopefully, plot details will be revealed and an official title announcement will happen before the end of the year.
