Jon Favreau Is Already Working On Season 2 Of 'The Mandalorian,' Months Before Season 1 Premieres

Disney’s streaming service has yet to launch and the buzz around certain projects is reaching ridiculous levels. That’s to be expected, of course, when you’re featuring series from Marvel Studios, Lucasfilm, and Pixar. However, perhaps the most-anticipated Disney+ series is “The Mandalorian.” And according to the show’s creator Jon Favreau, he’s already working on Season 2 before even a minute of footage of Season 1 premieres.

Speaking to Collider, while promoting his upcoming sure-thing blockbuster “The Lion King,” Favreau talked about how he loves working with Disney (who wouldn’t?) and explained how the relationship has given him the chance to continue his love of ‘Star Wars.’

“I keep getting pulled deeper into the orbit of Disney, but fortunately the stuff that Disney’s working on is the stuff that I love,” said Favreau. “I wanted to do a ‘Star Wars’ TV show like ‘The Mandalorian’ and pitched it to them and they were very open to it.”

He continued, “I even wrote four episodes before I even was hired to do it because I was excited as a fan to see what these stories might be and see if they were interested in doing what I was interested in, which they were. And I was actually writing Season 2 this morning before I came here.”

The showrunner continues to explain that filming for “The Mandalorian” uses some of the most cutting-edge technology in filmmaking. And in describing that, he also says that the visuals for Season 2 are also being worked on right now.

Favreau added, “So if you visited the set now as we’re starting to get into Season 2, it looks a lot like the set of ‘The Lion King’ as we’re planning how we’re gonna shoot it ahead of time.”

Obviously, we don’t know anything about Season 2 of “The Mandalorian.” At this point, we hardly know anything about Season 1, which isn’t scheduled to premiere until November. But apparently, Disney is happy with it and wants to keep Favreau going.
