Got a Tip?

Jon Favreau Say He Won’t Direct ‘The Avengers’ Movie

Big news coming out of the Marvel movie universe that is already putting nerds into a tizzy of flagrant exclamation mark abuse.

As you might have guessed given schedules, Jon Favreau won’t be directing “The Avengers” movie. It’s a picture he once said he would have loved to direct and seemed to think he should have first dibs on but it looks like he’ll have other projects on his plate by then.

“They’ll have to [find a different director], because I’m not going to be available,” he explained to MTV. “It’s something I’m being the executive producer on, so I’ll definitely have input and a say.”

After the release of “Iron Man,” Favreau seemed very gung-ho to be thought of as the man for the job, but now it seems like he sees it as a daunting task, that a director will need lots of luck with.

“It’s going to be hard, because I was so involved in creating the world of Iron Man and Iron Man is very much a tech-based hero, and then with ‘Avengers’ you’re going to be introducing some supernatural aspects because of Thor,” he continued. “How you mix the two of those works very well in the comic books, but it’s going to take a lot of thoughtfulness to make that all work and not blow the reality that we’ve created.”

Lastly, MTV has also quashed any rumors that Ed Norton will be cameoing in “Iron Man 2.” It’s not happening. Ah well, dare to dream, right? “The Avengers” is still scheduled for May 4, 2012 as of right now. Surely they won’t have a director for this one until at least “Thor” is finished. As for “Captain America,” there were ridiculous rumors this week that Chris O’Donnell was given the part, but we won’t even justify that with a link, as it just seemed like traffic baiting, but what does seem fairly clear is that “Captain America,” has kind of stalled creatively.
