'Solo' Writer Jonathan Kasdan Has Already Completed One Script For 'Willow' Streaming Series

Sure, Lucasfilm is probably best known for “Star Wars” and “Indiana Jones,” but the studio has been in the moviemaking business for a while now and has some other tricks up its sleeve. And in a new profile with the LA Times, a couple of non-“Star Wars” and non-“Indiana Jones” projects have been revealed, including an update on the highly-anticipated “Willow” series.

According to the report, writer Jonathan Kasdan has completed the first script for a potential “Willow” streaming series on Disney+. Kasdan, as you might already know, is the co-writer of “Solo: A Star Wars Story” (which he wrote with his dad, Lawrence Kasdan) and is also working on the script for “Indiana Jones 5.”

The last we heard about the “Willow” streaming series was back in May when Ron Howard revealed that discussions were ongoing. The series is said to be a sequel to the cult-classic film from 1988 that stars Val Kilmer and Warwick Davis. No exact plot details have been revealed. But it appears that Lucasfilm is definitely entertaining the idea of a series and is hard at work.

Another project that Lucasfilm is said to be developing is a film based on the novel “Children of Blood and Bone” by Tomi Adeyemi. The rights for the film were previously picked up by Fox, but now that the studio is under the Disney banner, Lucasfilm is co-developing a film based on the fantasy story.

Obviously, there’s no timetable on either of these projects, but it is clear that part of Lucasfilm’s future is going to be developing projects that don’t involve laser swords and adventuring archeologists. That’s pretty exciting, right?
