There are few people in Hollywood right now who are rising as fast as Josh O’Connor. Sure, he’s been working for years now, but he really broke out in a big way recently with film roles in “La Chimera” and “Challengers.” Now, he’s caught the attention of Steven Spielberg.

According to THR, Josh O’Connor is set to star opposite Emily Blunt, Colman Domingo, Colin Firth, and Eve Hewson in Steven Spielberg’s upcoming sci-fi film. Not much is known about the film other than it has sci-fi elements and is thought to be Spielberg’s first attempt at a blockbuster since 2018’s “Ready Player One.”
The film is written by David Koepp, who previously worked with the filmmaker on projects such as “Jurassic Park,” “The Lost World: Jurassic Park,” “War of the Worlds,” and “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.”
As mentioned, O’Connor might be best known for his recent roles, but he’s been in a number of projects before the past couple of years. He has had roles in films such as “Mothering Sunday,” “Emma,” and “God’s Own Country.” O’Connor has a number of projects on the way, including the highly anticipated “Knives Out” sequel, “Wake Up, Dead Man.” He’s also set to star in Kelly Reichardt’s next film, “The Mastermind.”
Again, it’s unclear what exactly we should expect with Spielberg’s next film. However, we do know it has a release date, via Universal, for May 15, 2026.
