In the middle of 2024, it was announced that acclaimed filmmaker Olivier Assayas was set to make a film titled “The Wizard of the Kremlin.” Not only that, the film is set to feature actors such as Paul Dano, Alicia Vikander, and Jude Law. However, not much was known about the film aside from that info. Now, it appears we know more, including the big news that Jude Law is set to portray one of the most controversial political figures of our time.

According to a new interview with Deadline, Jude Law has confirmed that he is set to play Vladimir Putin in the upcoming film, “The Wizard of the Kremlin.” While filming has yet to begin, Law has done some preliminary research into playing the leader of Russia.
“I say that hesitatingly because I haven’t really started work on it yet,” said Law. “I mean, I have, but at the moment it looks like an Everest to climb, so I’m in the foothills looking up thinking, ’Oh Christ, what have I said?’ That’s often how I feel whilst I say yes. I was going, ’Oh God, how am I going to do this?’ But anyway, that’s for me to sort out.”

Clearly, Law realizes what type of role this is. As much as he is a veteran of stage and screen, playing Putin in a major film is a big feat. However, we are confident it will turn out okay considering it is being directed by Assayas, who is one of the best filmmakers working today. That said, it will still be interesting to see how far Law goes to portray the political leader.
“The Wizard of the Kremlin” tells the true story of 1990s Russia, after the fall of the USSR. A young TV producer finds himself working with an up-and-coming political figure, Vladimir Putin, and becomes the spin man for him.
As mentioned, it’s unclear when production might begin on the project, so it’s hard to know when we might see it arrive. However, with these folks involved, it’s definitely a project we’d love to see happen soon.
