'Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom' & The Time For The Dinos... To End [Podcast]

Welcome to another edition of The Playlist Podcast, a discussion about film news and other film and television related items.

I’m joined as always by Playlist Editor-in-Chief Rodrigo Perez to discuss “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom,” the fifth film in the “Jurassic Park” series and the immediate follow-up to the $1.67 billion-dollar grossing “Jurassic World.”

We start with some initial box office predictions for the latest dino adventure, which started rolling out overseas two weeks ago and has already amassed nearly $400 million. While we expect a considerable drop-off domestically from its predecessor (given the lukewarm response of that film), it’s still shaping up to be a massive success.

Then, we pivot to our initial spoiler-free thoughts on the film – directed this time out by “The Orphanage” helmer J.A. Bayona – along with a discussion in regards to the ire that director Colin Trevorrow tends to draw from people in our line of work (who remains on board as co-writer and executive producer on this film). For more spoiler-free thoughts on the film, be sure to read Drew Taylor’s “C+” review here.

At 32:55, we get into a ***SPOILER DISCUSSION*** about the film which, admittedly, there isn’t a whole lot here to spoil. But, we always want to honor those who want to go in as fresh as possible, so if you don’t want specific details, come back to the discussion after you’ve seen the film. In this section, we also dive into the “Jurassic Park” series as a whole, and how it seems impossible for this franchise to capture the magic of the first film, despite four more attempts (You can also read a great piece over at ScreenCrush about the decline of the series here).
