According to THR, XYZ Films is setting its distribution debut to be the new feature, “Something in the Direct,” from the directing duo of Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead. The film is currently in post-production and an exact release date has yet to be announced, but with Benson and Moorhead attached as filmmakers, you better believe we’re excited to see what they have coming. Exact plot details of the film have yet to be revealed, as well.

For those unaware, Benson and Moorhead are two of the most exciting genre filmmakers working today. They broke out with their acclaimed sci-fi feature, “The Endless.” Their most recent feature is the thriller, “Synchronic,” which was released in 2020. The duo is currently set to direct multiple episodes of the upcoming Marvel Studios TV series, “Moon Knight.”

“Justin, Aaron, and Dave [Lawson, producer] were incredible to work with during the Drafthouse Films release of ‘Spring’ and I’ve loved each film they’ve done since,” James Emanuel Shapiro, Executive VP of U.S. Distribution for XYZ Films, said. “‘Something in the Dirt’ is smart, inventive, and very entertaining. I hope we can distribute every film they do going forward.”

It appears XYZ Films is going to focus on independent genre features for the time being, with features such as “Something in the Dirt” being described as the “perfect” launch title.

James has been distributing elevated, indie genre films for twenty years and knows how to reach that audience better than anyone.”

Again, a specific release date for “Something in the Dirt” has yet to be announced.
