Got a Tip?

Justin Timberlake Takes Over Former Ryan Gosling Project ‘The Idolmaker’

null

While Ryan Gosling is already well on his way with his directorial debut “How To Catch A Monster,” slated for release next year, things could have been very different. A couple years ago, Gosling was attached to star in and direct a remake of Taylor Hackford‘s lesser known 1980 film “The Idolmaker.Less than a month after signing on he dropped the gig citing a busy a schedule, but now someone else with singing and acting talent is going to give it a go.

The Wrap reports that Justin Timberlake is now slated to produce “The Idolmaker,” though he’s not attached to star, but given the material, you would have to think he’s going to at least consider it. The film is a biopic of music producer and promoter Bob Marcucci, who managed ’50s rock’n’roll stars like Frankie Avalon and Fabian before burning out. We can only imagine given the chance to do his thing with ’50s pop music, Timberlake would take it. And probably crush it too. As for the original? It’s not a sacred cow, and certainly a redo isn’t an absurd suggestion (see trailer below).

Anyway, we’ll see how this develops. A screenwriter and director still need to be found so this is probably a ways off. But from Gosling to Timberlake, MGM is certainly attracting some big names to this thing.
