Well, Kevin Feige is back doing press rounds because of the upcoming release of Destin Daniel Cretton‘s “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” so the studio head is fielding a slew of questions and is often asked to comment on various internet rumblings. The most recent one he’s clarified is a claim that Marvel Studios and the Russo Brothers were aiming to split their other big multiverse event film, “Avengers: Secret Wars,” from a single movie into two separate ones. However, that’s just not true.
Speaking with Josh Horowitz for his fantastic podcast “Happy Sad Confused.” Feige has debunked that “Avengers: Secret Wars” would be a two-parter with a blunt, “Not in this world.”

He also poured some cold water on the talk of the studio rebooting the MCU (iffy rumors are already swirling about main Avengers getting new actors, something we don’t really envision anytime soon), although he isn’t shutting the door entirely after citing comics giving them a potential “roadmap” when it’s time to do that. When asked if we’re looking at a reboot coming out of “Secret Wars,” Feige responded with “No. But I look to the comics like I always do, in terms of our storytelling. And after both the ‘Secret Wars,’ but particularly the [Jonathan] Hickman ‘Secret Wars’ from 10 years ago, there’s a nice roadmap to where we can go.”
We’re still a tad in the dark about what this feature film version of “Secret Wars” is going to even look like, as it could see Robert Downey Jr.‘s Doctor Doom carrying over, or they could move toward casting The Beyonder (another cosmic-level threat from those comics), altough still unclear if the project is going to be a one-to-one (notably, none of the major MCU events are really ever carbon copies of their comic book counterparts) with the comic book iterations of the storyline or something completely different to captalize on what could be the final major outing mining the multiverse gimmick.
There is a good chance with San Diego Comic-Con happening this week that Feige might reveal more concrete information for “Secret Wars” this weekend; the main villain would be a good start, and with production said to be kicking off later this year in the United Kingdom, we suspect new information is on the horizon, including what actors are going to be appearing in it. Even if that is an early shortlist of cast members.
“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” is heading to theaters on July 31, so you’d better get your tickets soon before those screenings on the opening weekend end up getting sold out or prime seats are gobbled up. Today, Disney/Marvel also dropped the first-look trailer for “Avengers: Doomsday,” which is set to be released on December 18.
