Kevin Feige Says “Always Have Hope” For Spider-Man & Venom Crossover, Sony Keen For More Film Collaborations With Marvel

Fans seemingly have been clamouring for the MCU to bring in Venom into the fold, which isn’t all that surprising as Sony Pictures spent years stringing along audiences that a crossover would happen with Tom Holland‘s superhero (an obvious deceptive marketing ploy for the Tom Hardy solo films to become a bigger draw). But with “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” it feels like the potenital start of a new trilogy and could mean reintroductions of existing bad guys from the past like Venom.

Speaking with the film’s producers Amy Pascal and Kevin Feige, Josh Horowitz of the “Happy Say Confused” podcast was able to ask them directly about bringing characters like Kingpin and Daredevil into the fold of the universe (Pascal reminding him that Charlie Cox was already in “Spider-Man: No Way Home” as Matt Murdock). While they both seemed open to the idea, there was more of “maybe and wait and see” when it comes to the subject of a real-deal crossover between Spider-Man and Venom on the big screen.

“It would be great, let’s put it that way,” Pascal said. When asked if there is still hope for that big-time crossover between Spidey and Venom, Feige chimed in with “Always have hope.” Sounds like everyone has moved on from Tom Hardy‘s iteration of the character in live-action (mind you, Hardy and Holland had once played father and son in the film “Locke“).

Despite some very inaccurate rumors that made the rounds online that “Brand New Day” would involve the symbiotes and possibly a version of Venom, it’s hard not to imagine that a real crossover could be in the cards in what feels like a new comic-friendly trilogy (we’ll keep our fingers crossed Destin Daniel Cretton sticks around for two more movies), even if they end up rebooting Eddie Brock/Venom with a new actor (we wouldn’t be upset if “Reacher” lead Alan Ritchson filled those shoes).

Also, during the red carpet premiere of “Brand New Day,” Sony Pictures studio head Tom Rothman was asked by Deadline about their desire to keep on making crossovers/collaborations with Marvel/Disney.

“Well, it’s interesting that you say more. I don’t really think of this as a crossover per se. The Spider-Man movies have always been Spider-Man-led. Yes, there is a wonderfully mutually beneficial relationship between [Sony Pictures] and Marvel and Disney, and it has worked out great, so I would hope so.” We wouldn’t be all that shocked if “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” ends up getting close to what “No Way Home” made and crosses the billion-dollar mark in record time.

Considering that these Marve/Sony “Spider-Man” movies have been some of the most profitable theatrical outings for the studio, we cannot imagine they’ll look at a gift horse in the mouth again. This comes after they scrapped their spinoff universe, with movies like “Morbius,” “Madame Web,” and “Kraven The Hunter” failing to connect with audiences. Not exactly official but we could envision something like a live-action Miles Morales (from “Spider-Verse” releases) film or a Black Cat solo film being on the table for future collaborations between Sony and Marvel down the line.
