Kevin Feige Reveals MCU Plans Go Up To 2042, After ‘Secret Wars’ It Will Have “Brand New” Things Alongside The Familiar

While Marvel Studios‘ Kevin Feige has recently downplayed talk of a reboot/reset for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the executive has revealed that their plans for the ever-expanding superhero franchise might have 15-16 years of ideas going up to 2042 or beyond. So, no sign of slowing down anytime soon, and hints at having a mix of new/familiar things in the MCU after the release of “Avengers: Secret Wars.”

Apparently, Feige was able to speak with Chinese outlets during a visit to Shanghai and revealed this while speaking with the outlet/account Keep An Eye On Hollywood/Watching Hollywood (via a post on Weibo and English translation from Google Translate, so there might be some hiccups in the wording), teasing the possibility of going into 2040: “I don’t know if we’re still in 2042…Let’s meet again then?” Feige quipped about the future of the MCU.

Actually, what we want to do is two things: first, to wrap up some storylines that started long before “Iron Man,” including the original X-Men characters. Second, we must also set a good stage for the future. ‘Avengers: Endgame’ really is the end; after that, we tried and experimented with many new things. But ‘Avengers: Endgame’ is just the beginning. It will build a streamlined, simplified, single universe that allows us to keep up. Some of these things will be familiar, but many, many will be brand new,” Feige seemingly teased what could be happening after “Secret Wars” events.

“We were just in the Marvel Studios conference room, and we’ve already planned the movie up to 2042. As for whether we can hold out until 2042? Who knows? Could what be produced be those movies? Who knows? But this is how we gradually handle and plan the vast potential stories in comics. We are always changing, evolving, but having a little guidance to help us act more purposefully…… Especially the X-Men—they’ve already had 10 movies, some very, very good, and some I think haven’t delivered on their promises—how do we plan to lay out the [The Mutant Saga] in such a grand way?”

We’re extremely hopeful that with “Secret Wars” being the next big MCU production heading in front of cameras in the very near future, more details and casting will be revealed soon, possibly during their big Hall H panel this weekend at San Diego Comic-Con. However, when it came to “Avengers: Doomsday,” we didn’t learn about the main lineup until just before filming started with a viral video reveal posted to social media.

“Doomsday” will be unleashed in theaters on December 18, and we suspect we might have an idea of where “Secret Wars” and The Mutant Saga are going with that pic.
