Got a Tip?

Kevin Smith To Produce New ‘Masters Of The Universe’ Sequel Series For Netflix

Back in the mid-‘90s, Kevin Smith looked like the next Quentin Tarantino, a fresh voice in Hollywood with a huge filmmaking career in front of him. As we know, that ended up panning out for most of the ‘90s and into the early 2000s. However, recently, Smith has found his focus more on podcasting and TV directing than films. And it would appear that he’s actually taking a bigger leap into TV with his next project, a new animated He-Man series on Netflix.

According to Variety, Smith has been hired to produce and showrun the upcoming “Masters of the Universe: Revelation” animated series for Netflix. Though exact plot details are being kept under wraps, the series is said to be a continuation of the popular ‘80s cartoon series that saw He-Man and his pals take on the villainous Skeletor for the fate of Eternia. ‘Revelation’ is said to pick up where the original series left off and actually resolve questions for fans that were never answered decades ago.

“I’m Eternia-ly grateful to Mattel TV and Netflix for entrusting me with not only the secrets of Grayskull, but also their entire Universe,” Smith said. “In ‘Revelation,’ we pick up right where the classic era left off to tell an epic tale of what may be the final battle between He-Man and Skeletor! Brought to life with the most metal character designs Powerhouse Animation can contain in the frame, this is the ‘Masters of the Universe’ story you always wanted to see as a kid!”

“’Masters of the Universe’ has been a cultural phenomenon for generations, inspiring fans to discover their own power within,” executive producer Rob David, the vice president of Mattel TV, said. “Fans of this franchise have been waiting for the continuation of these characters, and Kevin Smith, as a ‘Masters’ superfan himself, is the perfect champion and partner to expand the canon through a dynamic animated series on Netflix.”

No word on when fans might see He-Man return on Netflix, but nostalgia has won yet another battle as “Masters of the Universe: Revelation” is coming to your TVs soon enough.
