Got a Tip?

‘King Of Kong’ Director Seth Gordon Will Play ‘WarGames’ In Reboot

Reboot! That seems to be the buzzword over at MGM who have films like “Carrie,” “The Idolmaker,” “Poltergeist” and “RoboCop” all in various stages of development, and what the hell, might as well add one more.

Deadline reports that the not-bankrupt-anymore studio is now looking to blow out the dust in the cartridge of John Badham‘s 1983 film “WarGames” and give it a reboot. Originally starring Matthew Broderick and Ally Sheedy (ah, the ’80s), the film chronicled a couple of computer nerds who hack into a military computer and instead of doing some WikiLeaks-style investigative reporting, realize they might just accidentally start World War III. Oops. So who better to take it on than…Seth Gordon?

Yes, the “King of Kong” director has been tapped to develop and direct the project and it’s a bit of an odd choice. Since his breakthrough documentary he’s helmed the awful “Four Christmases,” a segment in “Freakonomics,” some episodes of “The Office” and “Parks and Recreation” and the upcoming “Horrible Bosses.” Certainly, nothing really indicates a drama/thriller of this sort, which either means he’s looking to do something different or the reboot will be going in a more comedic direction. Clearly, this is in early stages so we presume “The Only Living Boy In New York” with Logan Lerman, announced this spring, will still come first.
