'King Of Thieves' Teaser: Michael Caine Teams With 'Theory Of Everything' Director For A Heist Film

You know how Liam Neeson re-energized his career after releasing “Taken?” Suddenly, Neeson became the go-to guy for a very specific style of action film. Well, it appears that Michael Caine is trying to carve out his own niche in the twilight of his career. In the new teaser for “King of Thieves,” we see the legendary actor doing yet another senior citizen heist movie.

That’s right, Michael Caine is now the go-to guy for those films where older men attempt to evade police after performing the perfect heist.

Last year, Caine starred in “Going in Style,” which saw the actor team with Alan Arkin and Morgan Freeman as three men-of-a-certain-age as they attempt to rob a bank. In “King of Thieves,” which is set to debut later this year, Caine stars alongside Jim Broadbent, Tom Courtenay, and Michael Gambon as a group of older gentlemen who attempt the perfect jewelry heist.

Okay, obvious similarities aside, “King of Thieves” actually looks like a much better film than “Going in Style.” No offense to Zach Braff, who helmed last year’s ‘Style,’ the filmmaker behind ‘Thieves’ is of a different caliber. James Marsh, the man who won an Oscar for his doc “Man on Wire” and was nominated for a ton of awards for “The Theory of Everything,” is the director of the upcoming film.

“King of Thieves” is set to debut in UK cinemas on September 14 and then will no doubt have a worldwide rollout soon after.

Here’s the official synopsis:

From the producers of Legend and Baby Driver, and featuring an all-star cast of homegrown legends led by Sir Michael Caine, King of Thieves is the darkly funny, incredible true story of the Hatton Garden robbery, the most daring heist in British criminal history.
