New 'Kingsman: The Golden Circle' Trailer Heads To America

There were seemingly two camps when it came to Matthew Vaughn’s genre mash “Kingsman: The Secret Service.” There were those who were pleasantly surprised and taken with the wildly careening film that had Colin Firth bucking his typical role of stuffy, upper class, sauve white guy, to stuffy, upper class, suave white guy who kicks major ass set to the tune of “Freebird.” Then there were those who felt it was obscene, tired and poorly committed to its idea of being satirical when it refused to actually shake the restraints of a spy movie. ‘Kingsman’ had me thinking it was overall entertaining, if tonally jarring, until the last moments when one sexist joke and sight gag soured the overall taste of the film.

Regardless, it was immensely popular in the box office and, as mentioned, split the difference with critics for a decent overall “fresh” scoring. A sequel was imminent and so far the teasers for “Kingsman: The Golden Circle” have seemed to coast on the idea of fun, outlandish action mixed with acute attention to styling but this time, it’s set in the US with some recognizable faces including a cowboy hat wearing Channing Tatum. The cast overall is pretty brilliant, spearheaded by up and coming Taron Egerton. Perhaps this time Vaughn might show some restraint in terms of humor for the sake of shock value alone. Here’s the official synopsis:

When their headquarters are destroyed and the world is held hostage, their journey leads them to the discovery of an allied spy organization in the US called Statesman, dating back to the day they were both founded. In a new adventure that tests their agents’ strength and wits to the limit, these two elite secret organizations band together to defeat a ruthless common enemy, in order to save the world, something that’s becoming a bit of a habit for Eggsy…

The film stars a returning Mark Strong and Colin Firth along with newcomers Julianne Moore, Jeff Bridges, Halle Berry and Elton John of all people. With a script by Vaughn and Jane Goldman the film will be released on September 29th through 20th Century Fox.
