Kit Harington Didn't Care If 'Eternals' Role Was “Different & Interesting”: “If Marvel Calls, You Gotta Do It”

Marvel Studios’ “Eternals” might not be seen as a great film in the MCU canon, but it does introduce a wealth of new characters to the universe. Obviously, you have the title characters, but there’s also folks like Pip the Troll, Starfox, and of course, Kit Harington’s Black Knight. However, since the film wasn’t a huge critical and box office success, there’s no telling when we might see those characters again. Hell, more like if we see them again. But for the aforementioned Harington, the choice to join the MCU in “Eternals” was really no choice at all.

Speaking to GQ, Kit Harington talked quite a bit about his career up until now. And of course, you had to expect the publication to ask the actor about his Marvel work. When asked about taking on a role in “Eternals,” the actor actually joked about the reason he said yes.

“I’m not gonna pretend I took that [role] because it was different and interesting,” said Harington. “If Marvel calls, you gotta do it.”

That’s probably the most honest answer from a Marvel actor that we’ve gotten in quite some time. And Harington isn’t wrong. For many of the people Marvel calls up to star in the studios’ films, there really isn’t much of a choice to be made. Marvel Studios (outside of the past few years) has not only been a hugely popular franchise, making billions of dollars at the box office, but it’s been a critical darling.

For many of these actors, there’s hardly any downsides of saying yes. The biggest downside is perhaps how the franchise might keep you too busy for a chunk of time. But if you play your cards right, you could follow in the footsteps of people like Chris Hemsworth, who went from basically obscurity to being a household name with immense fame.

Unfortunately for Harington, “Eternals” wasn’t a massive success. That said, it’s hardly a bad thing. No one is blaming the actor for the poor performance of the film. And guess what? He probably will show up at some point in the future of the MCU. So, there’s a chance at redemption.
