Got a Tip?

Kristen Stewart & Olivier Assayas Have A New Project Together In The Works

Next year, CHANEL dedicates its Summer 2023 Ready-To-Wear show at the Grand Palais Ephémère in Paris to actress Kristen Stewart. No surprise there, as Steward has been a brand ambassador for the French fashion house since 2013 and is the face of CHANEL’s S/S 2023 collection. But Forbes had some great news for moviegoers in their coverage of CHANEL’s plans: Stewart and filmmaker Olivier Assayas have a new project together lined up.

Assayas had this to say about Stewart for the upcoming show: “Anyone who has come across Kristen Stewart, by which I mean the person, not the actress or her films, knows how she stands with innate elegance and intelligence on the razor’s edge of her era, on both sides is the abyss, where she stands is allure.” Assayas and Stewart worked together on a pair of films in the mid-2010s to great acclaim, 2014’s “The Clouds Of Sils Maria” and 2016’s “Personal Shopper.” Stewart won the César Award for Best Supporting Actress for “Sils Maria,” the first time an American won the award. In addition, Assayas shared the Best Director Award at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival for “Personal Shopper.”

Since then, Assayas has done 2018’s “Non-Fiction,” 2019’s “Wasp Network” for Netflix, and a miniseries revamp (pun intended) of his 1996 film “Irma Vep” for HBO with Alicia Vikander. Stewart had a brief cameo role in the series. Meanwhile, Stewart tackled the biopic genre with 2019’s “Seberg” and 2021’s “Spencer,” braved the action remake with “Charlie’s Angels,” and spiced up the rom-com in “Happiest Season.” She also connected with another auteur, body horror maestro David Cronenberg, in “Crimes Of The Future” this year.

Neither Assayas nor Stewart is connected to any projects at the moment, so it’s safe to assume that their reunion is what’s next for each of them. And even if there are no details about the project yet, given the overall quality of their previous two films together, expect their third to be just as good, if not better.
