After a fairly long run on HBO’s “Silicon Valley,” it appeared like the future of Kumail Nanjiani’s acting career was going to be on the big screen. Well, while his theatrical career seems to be stronger than ever before with the Marvel Studios film, “Eternals,” on the horizon, Nanjiani is going back to the small screen for a new Hulu miniseries, “Immigrant.”

According to Hulu, Kumail Nanjiani has signed on to executive produce and star in the upcoming series, “Immigrant.” The drama is an 8-episode series that follows the story of Somen “Steve” Banerjee, the man behind the creation of the Chippendales franchise. Robert Siegel, who is recently one of the more buzzed-about TV creators around thanks to his “Pam and Tommy” series that is currently in production, who the creator of the show and will also write the series alongside Rajiv Joseph and Mehar Sethi.
As mentioned, Nanjiani is probably best known, in recent years, for his roles on the big screen in films like “Stuber,” “The Love Birds,” and of course, his Oscar-nominated film, “The Big Sick.” In addition to the just-announced “Immigrant,” Nanjiani is also set to have a role in a new TV series (though calling it a “series” is a bit of a misnomer since it’s more of a six-hour film) for Lucasfilm titled “Obi-Wan Kenobi,” based on the famous character from the “Star Wars” franchise.
Obviously, with the series just being announced, it’s unclear when we might see it hit Hulu. But with Siegel attached and Nanjiani starring, “Immigrant” is going to be one of the most anticipated new series over the next couple of years.
Here’s the synopsis for the series:
“Immigrant” is the true story of Somen “Steve” Banerjee (played by Nanjiani), the Indian-American entrepreneur who started Chippendales. The series will detail the insane, darkly comedic, crime-ridden story behind the unique male revue that became a cultural phenomenon.
