Laurence Fishburne Weighs In On Marvel Vs. DC & The Martha Moment From ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice’

While Warner Bros. spent the past year dealing with the critical blowback from “Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice” and “Suicide Squad,” the talent involved has generally been supportive and positive about their working experience on the blockbusters (except for maybe Jared Leto who pouted about his scenes in the latter being cut). Most of the main players have been upbeat about the world-building franchise, but Laurence Fishburne — perhaps inspired by his role in ‘Dawn Of Justice’ as newspaper editor Perry White — gave the straight goods about DC Films in a recent interview with the L.A. Times.

“We’ve been waiting 35 years for these [characters] to show up on the screen. What were they doing over there? Marvel has been kicking their ass. This is the comic-book geek in me, who has a collection of comic books. I’ve been waiting to see these people on-screen forever,” the actor said about the anticipation for “Justice League,” and Warner Bros. inaction to maximize their comic book properties.

There’s no doubt the studio and DC Films are running well behind Marvel, but don’t expect Fishburne to throw them completely under the bus. He has kind words for Zack Snyder and even defends the Martha moment from ‘Dawn Of Justice.’

“Look, I love what Zack Snyder does. Jesse Eisenberg, this little nebbishy guy, as Lex Luthor? For me, that’s a genius move. And the whole thing with Martha Kent and Martha Wayne? I don’t know, man, I must be sentimental but that’s some heartwarming [stuff] to me. So I don’t get [the criticism],” he said.

For “Justice League,” Fishburne will be watching it purely as a fan just like the rest of us as scheduling conflicts kept him out of the movie. It arrives on November 17th. [via io9]
