Who knew that 2014’s “The Lego Movie” would be the start of one of the most fun and creative franchises around today? Four years and two films (“The Lego Batman Movie” and “The Lego Ninjago Movie” later, here we are with the first trailer for the long-awaited “Lego Movie” sequel “The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part.” And it looks awesome.

Now a Master Builder, life for Emmet Brickowski is good, but when the Duplo Aliens kidnap Batman, Emmet must re-team up with his girlfriend Wyldstyle, their friends, and his sister to go to space to rescue him.
So who are these new Duplo Aliens? Back in 2017, former director Chris McKay (now just an executive producer) mentioned at a press conference that, “the Duplo represents Finn’s sister, Finn being the little boy from the live-action… Now, she’s coming in, and that’s the major thing that the movie is about. What’s different and similar about gender, when a boy plays vs how a girl plays? What kinds of stories are there?” Producer Dan Lin spoke further saying that “it’s going to be really interesting juxtaposing those two different visions.”
The exceptional voice-cast includes Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett, Channing Tatum, and Jonah Hill all reprising their roles from the previous film. And, back in March, it was announced that “Girls Trip” breakout Tiffany Haddish would be joining them as a new character.
After a few different directors and release date shake-ups, “Shrek Forever After” and “Trolls” director Mike Mitchell swooped in and saved the film. Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the writers and directors of the first film, will be returning as producers and co-writers. While Lord and Miller wrote the original draft, “BoJack Horseman” creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg was also hired to put some finishing touches on it.
Warner Bros. will release “The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part” on February 8, 2019.
