'The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special': Rey & The Gang Return To Celebrate Life Day In A New Disney+ Special

For “Star Wars” fans, there are certain topics that will always spark a lively discussion. Most recently, you can bring up either ‘The Last Jedi’ or ‘The Rise of Skywalker.’ But for decades prior to Disney buying Lucasfilm, there was always a debate and discussion surrounding the silly “Star Wars Holiday Special” from 1978. The special aired on TV once and was quickly wiped from existence by George Lucas after the terrible reception it experienced. It’s the rare misstep in the early “Star Wars” years for Lucas and still remains a joke amongst fans. And now Disney is doing it all over again. Kinda.

Disney has announced plans for a new program titled “The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special.” As the title suggests, this isn’t going to be a live-action special like the 1978 program created by Lucas. Instead, Disney is hoping to build off the success of the LEGO franchise to make a new ‘Holiday Special’ that might be worth checking out, especially if you’re someone who enjoyed the recent trilogy.

Here’s the synopsis for the special:

Directly following the events of “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker,” Rey leaves her friends to prepare for Life Day as she sets off on a new adventure with BB-8 to gain a deeper knowledge of the Force. At a mysterious Jedi Temple, she is hurled into a cross-timeline adventure through beloved moments in Star Wars cinematic history, coming into contact with Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Yoda, Obi-Wan and other iconic heroes and villains from all nine Skywalker saga films. But will she make it back in time for the Life Day feast and learn the true meaning of holiday spirit?

It is expected to debut on Disney+ on Life Day, which falls on November 17.
