After taking some time off, it would appear that Oscar-winning filmmaker Guillermo del Toro has a jam-packed slate of projects on the horizon. He already put on his producer’s cap for the upcoming film “Antlers.” In addition, he’s signed on to direct a stop-motion animated version of “Pinocchio” for Netflix. But on the live-action front, it seems as if del Toro has decided on which project to work on next and he’s bringing along Leonardo DiCaprio to star.
Variety is reporting that DiCaprio is in negotiations to star in the upcoming del Toro-helmed film titled “Nightmare Alley.” The film is said to be the next project for the director, and his first directorial effort since he won the Oscar for “The Shape of Water.”
“Nightmare Alley” is said to be based on the novel of the same name from author William Lindsay Gresham. Knowing what the book is about leads us to believe this is yet another project that is right up del Toro’s alley, so to speak. “Nightmare Alley” is about those people who work at a second-rate carnival, including the lowlife hustlers and grifters.
DiCaprio is obviously very picky about what films he signs up for, and he has a proclivity towards working only with the best of the best directors, including James Cameron, Martin Scorsese, and most recently, Quentin Tarantino. Not a bad group for del Toro to find himself a member of now.

The Oscar-winning actor will next be seen in the upcoming Tarantino film, “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” where he plays an aging actor in 1969, who has a very famous neighbor by the name of Sharon Tate.
There’s no release date for “Nightmare Alley” at this time, but production is said to begin in the fall.
