For the first time in a decade, we are living through a year that won’t include a brand-new Marvel Studios film. Not since 2009 has Marvel Studios been silent at theaters. But then again, COVID-19 is a problem that not even Disney can solve. That doesn’t mean we can’t look to the future of the ‘Avengers’ franchise and what that might include. And according to a “Black Panther” star, one project might be the all-female team-up film that was teased in last year’s “Avengers: Endgame.”
Speaking to Yahoo, “Black Panther” star Letitia Wright was asked about her role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. For those unfamiliar, Wright stars as Shuri, the sister of T’Challa, aka Black Panther, and she’s probably the smartest human on the planet. Her last appearance was in “Avengers: Endgame,” where she joined up with various female heroes to have a moment where they all fought together, signaling the opportunity for a new project featuring the assorted women of Marvel to happen. Not only does Wright think it’s a possibility, she thinks it’s an inevitability.
“I don’t think we have to fight for it,” she revealed. “Victoria Alonso [Marvel VP] is very strong about spearheading it, alongside Kevin [Feige, Marvel Studios President]. It’s only a matter of time before they do it.”
Even if it doesn’t happen, Wright is clearly excited to be a part of the MCU, especially playing a character like Shuri. The young actress commented on how much it means to her to play such an impactful character.
“It was always a dream of mine to play someone that can be impactful not only for Black women but also just for women around the world and young people, too,” said Wright. “To be able to have a combination of people and audience members who are so thrilled and appreciative of Shuri is a good feeling. I feel like I contributed something positive in the world.”

Of course, before we get to an all-female ‘Avengers’-style team-up, Marvel Studios has a busy slate of films over the next few years, including “Black Panther 2,” which will be the first film without the recently deceased Chadwick Boseman. But in the meantime, you can watch ‘Endgame’ and the first “Black Panther” on Disney+.
