“Lisey’s Story,” the latest TV adaptation of a Stephen King novel, is finally slated to premiere this summer on Apple TV+, following delays last year due to the pandemic.

The news comes from the streamer’s Television Critics Association winter press day on Friday, where Apple TV+ introduced a short teaser for its returning and brand-new genre series including the first footage of “Lisey’s Story.” The eight-episode, limited series is written entirely by King himself, and executive produced by J. J. Abrams and Bad Robot.
“‘Lisey’s Story’ means a lot to me because its the one I love best,” King said during the panel (via IndieWire). “It’s a story about love and marriage and the creative impulse and also has a kick-ass villain in it. My idea is to be all the way in as much as possible… This is a passion project.”
It’s been a while since we last heard of “Lisey’s Story.” Back in June of last year, director Pablo Larraín said he doubted whether he’d even be able to finish the project following delays due to the global pandemic. Then he went and shot the entirety of his Princess Diana film “Spencer” which is expected to premiere this fall. Does this mean he also found the time to secretly finish “Lisey’s Story”? Or did someone else directed the rest of the project for him? Alas, there was no news about this during the panel, but don’t be surprised if we later find out that there was more than one director on board.

In any case, “Lisey’s Story” is one of our most anticipated TV shows of 2021, a gripping thriller about a woman (played by Julianne Moore) forced to face memories of her marriage to her late husband (played by Clive Owen) she had blocked out of her mind after a series of unsettling events.
