At times, we might seems like cold-hearted cynics here at The Playlist but our readers might be surprised to learn that Belle & Sebastian ranks as one of our favorite bands. While we haven’t paid too much attention to them of late, the band have a new album on the horizon, Write About Love, with the title track and single featuring the guest vocals of none other than Carey Mulligan. And you know what? The girl has pipes.
“Write About Love” follows the latter day Belle & Sebastian template, with a stronger emphasis on their ’60s pop influences and is less confessional and insular than their earlier work. That said, it’s a bouncy tune about ditching your job and writing love songs and sounds like something Jenny from “An Education” would have loved.
Write About Love hits stores on October 11th in the UK and October 12th in North America via Matador. And we know all you kids like your mp3s these days, but Belle & Sebastian usually put exquisite care into their album artwork and liner notes so you might want to consider buying a physical copy. And if you like the song, you can download it now via Rough Trade Records. [Anglophenia]
