Back before James Gunn was the mastermind behind “Guardians of the Galaxy,” he was known for his off-kilter films like “Slither” and “Super.” And back before those films, Gunn was probably best known for his work as a writer on films like the two “Scooby-Doo” movies and Zack Snyder’s “Dawn of the Dead.” However, even before that, James Gunn paid his dues as part of the Troma family. And now, the godfather of Troma is speaking up about Gunn’s recent firing and has some strong words for Disney.
Lloyd Kaufman, who gave Gunn his first writing job on “Tromeo and Juliet,” was at San Diego Comic-Con, selling his wares, as he is known to do. During his time at the famous convention, he took the time to make a video discussing Gunn’s dismissal, and surprising no one, he didn’t feel the actions were just. In fact, Kaufman says that if Disney wants to fire anyone for their abhorrent behavior, they should look in the mirror.

“If Disney wants to kick somebody else out, they should look at their own movies, their sexist, racist movies that have influenced an entire generation of Americans,” Kaufman says (via IndieWire). “Why do we have so much racism and sexism? It may well have to do with the Disney movies. So maybe Disney [you] should fire yourselves.”
And as he finishing his statement, he offered Gunn’s fans an idea on how they can take action. And his idea is a bit old-school and in-your-face, as are his plethora of Troma films. “To all the fans who are here at San Diego Comic-Con, go and picket and do a demonstration at Disney. Uncle Lloydie will be there with you. Tell ’em you love James Gunn. I do!”
No word on whether or not anyone is taking Kaufman’s advice, or even if it’ll matter at this point. The ship has sailed and the ‘Guardians’ films will never be the same.
