'Deadpool 2' Director David Leitch In Talks To Remake The Bruce Lee Classic 'Enter The Dragon'

David Leitch appears to be the next big action film director. Having gotten his start as a co-director on the first two “John Wick” films and second-unit director on numerous action films, including “Captain America: Civil War,” Leitch has already released two films on his own, “Atomic Blonde” and the massive hit “Deadpool 2.” Now, he’s very much in demand, as he prepares to begin production on the ‘Fast and Furious’ spin-off “Hobbs & Shaw” and then maybe, he’ll direct one of the most anticipated action film remakes of all time.

According to Deadline, Leitch is eyeing a remake of “Enter the Dragon” as his follow-up to the upcoming ‘Fast and Furious’ spin-off. After Warner Bros. has spent years trying to get a remake off the ground, it appears that they’ve landed on Leitch as their director of choice to tackle the 1973 classic martial arts film that starred Bruce Lee.

For those not familiar with Lee’s biggest film, “Enter the Dragon” tells the story of a man who enters himself into an underground karate tournament, where he is trying to avenge the death of a loved one, while also finding himself in the middle of a criminal underworld. The film was a massive hit for Lee but marks his last great film, as he died shortly after.

It’s far too early to tell how they plan on remaking “Enter the Dragon.” The structure of the plot has been replicated quite a few times in films like “Mortal Kombat” and “Bloodsport.” Plus, there’s the whole challenge of trying to find someone to take Lee’s iconic role.

WB is apparently looking for a writer next, but they definitely have time. As mentioned, Leitch is about to begin production of “Hobbs & Shaw” and will likely not be able to focus on ‘Dragon’ until the latter half of 2019.
