Got a Tip?

Rare Cut Of ‘The Shining’ Containing A Deleted Scene Up For Auction From Kubrick’s Assistant

Attention fans of filmmaker Stanley Kubrick and his classic horror film “The Shining.” It’s time to break out the pocketbook. It appears that long-time assistant to Kubrick, Emilio D’Alessandro, has recently listed an item for auction, and it’s something truly special. Over at the Italian auction site, Aste Bolaffi, Lot 23 is none other than a long, extremely rare cut of “The Shining” including a never-before-released scene.

In the description for the auction, the item is described: “Long cut of the original film ‘The Shining’ containing the scene in which Wendy, played by Shelley Alexis Duvall, carries Danny, played by little Danny Lloyd. These cuts, given by Kubrick to D’Alessandro, are particularly rare because the director notoriously burned all the leftovers at the conclusion of the editing.”

“The Shining” has long been discussed as the greatest horror film of all time. This is much to the chagrin of author Stephen King, who has gone on the record many times denouncing the film as a bad adaptation of his original work. However, film fans have always held the movie in high-regard, and this auction listing might be the chance to unearth a piece of Kubrick, and horror film, history.

Emilio D’Alessandro is listed as a production assistant for “The Shining,” but worked as Stanley Kubrick’s personal assistant for 30 years. D’Alessandro started as Kubrick’s driver in London and soon became his personal friend and confidant. It makes sense that if anyone is going to have a rare cut of “The Shining,” Emilio D’Alessandro would be that guy. This item is part of a larger collection of Stanley Kubrick memorabilia up for auction at Aste Bolaffi, which includes shirts worn by Jack Nicholson during production of “The Shining,” as well posters, bags, and other items owned by Kubrick.

So, if you have a spare 3,000 euros (approx. $3,700 USD), then you can make a bid right now at the Aste Bolaffi website. Good luck!
