Not many people have seen the film, but one thing is for sure—NEON has hit the ball out of the park with the marketing of “Longlegs.” It’s especially commendable because clearly Nicolas Cage plays a vital role (and he’s seemingly under makeup even) and there is barely a glimpse at him in any of the trailers. But it’s working, and apparently the film is pretty damn good too.

As seen in the newest trailer for “Longlegs,” we get some more creepiness and horror, but we also get to see the critical reaction to the film. To say the words are glowing is an understatement. Not only are people saying it’s the best horror film of the year, but one of the quotes says it’s the best thriller in a decade. That’s high praise.
We honestly still don’t know much about “Longlegs.” We know the film stars Maika Monroe as an FBI agent who is investigating a string of murders that come with notes from someone calling themselves Longlegs. And though it’s never really spelled out, you can quickly surmise that the killer is in fact Nicolas Cage. But they refuse to show us his face. All we get are hints to what type of performance he’s going to give, with lots of voiceover.
“Longlegs” is written and directed by Oz Perkins, who is probably best known for his film, “The Blackcoat’s Daughter,” as well as projects like “I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House” and “Gretel & Hansel.”
“Longlegs” arrives in theaters on July 12. You can watch the trailer below:
