'Lords Of War': Nic Cage & Bill Skarsgård Teaming With Andrew Niccol On A Sequel To 2005's 'Lord Of War'

Andrew Niccol’s 2005 film, “Lord of War,” is the epitome of a decent film. The box office was fine, but not great. And the reviews were mixed but leaning towards good. All that to say, it is a perfectly adequate film. Well, in this world of sequels, reboots, and franchise fever, it was only a matter of time before Niccol had a chance to go back to the well for a new film in this budding franchise, “Lords of War.”

According to Vendôme Pictures, the studio behind “CODA” and the aforementioned “Lord of War,” Andrew Niccol is teaming up with star Nicolas Cage for the film, “Lords of War.” The sequel picks up years after the first film to find Cage’s arms-dealer character discovering he has an adult son. However, to spice things up, we find out that the son, played by Bill Skarsgård, is even more power-hungry than his father, which leads to a bitter conflict between both men.

“There is so much more to explore with these characters,” said Niccol. “Plato said it best – ‘Only the dead have seen the end of war.’ I’m looking forward to spending more time in the company of the charming devil that is Yuri Orlov and now his illegitimate son – who turns out to not be legitimate in any way.”

Niccol is probably best known for films such as “Gattaca,” “Simone,” and “In Time.” The most recent film he’s released is 2018’s “Anon.” Skarsgård is probably best known for playing Pennywise the Clown in the “It” franchise. However, most recently, he was the villain in the hugely successful action sequel, “John Wick: Chapter 4.” Cage is, well, Nicolas Cage. He’s been in a number of films, including the recently released vampire comedy, “Renfield.”

A release date for “Lords of War” has yet to be announced. The film is expected to be shopped around at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Filming is hoping to begin in the fall.
