'Louie' Season 4 Won't Air Until May 2014

nullThere is probably no comedy on television right now more loved or more daring than "Louie." The brainchild of Louis C.K., the show has, over the course of three seasons, been defined by many as a groundbreaking, somewhat visionary program that has redefined the rules of what a comedy should be. Both grounded and surreal, the show has been a critical darling, gained a fervent following, and recently earned its first Emmy for Outstanding Writer. And while the buzz couldn't be louder, it looks like Louis C.K. needs a bit of a break.

Instead of returning next summer, season four of "Louie" won't hit FX until May 2014. It'll be okay… So what's the hold up? Well, as the comedian, actor, writer, editor and director tells reporters, he wants to take some time to figure out what "Louie" will be doing next. "I want season four to go somewhere new…I'm looking back to when I did the first season and the time I took to do the show and decide which directions to go in and I want that back again. I want a little breathing room," he said, adding: "I want it to keep being something that comes from somewhere fun and important."

Noting that he usually writes, shoots and edits pretty much all at once, the plan here will be to spend the early part of 2013 writing new episodes before going in front of cameras. And frankly, if that helps Louis C.K., we don't mind waiting. So what will we do until then? Well, in case you forgot, "Arrested Development" returns next year, so that should fill your new comedy show appetite just fine. But if you just have to have more Louis C.K. in your life, he's currently on a comedy tour, and you'll see him on the big screen in Woody Allen's next film as well. [THR]
