Well, this is certainly good timing. David Krumholtz, who appears in Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” as Isidor Isaac Rabi, one of Oppenheimer’s best friends from an early age, is having a moment. Sure, you probably know Krumholtz from roles in movies like “The Santa Clause” franchise (1994–present), “10 Things I Hate About You” (1999), the “Harold & Kumar” film trilogy (2004–2011), or the CBS drama series “Numb3rs,” but the actor has lit up social media in the last two weeks with a kind of DGAF attitude. On Twitter (X), Krumholtz has basically decided to go almost scorched earth, telling all sorts of wild stories about previous movies and things he encountered in his career, especially as a young actor. Fortunately, though, it’s not quite the publicist’s nightmare that one imagines and he’s entertained with many of these tales (check out some of his story threads below).

Regardless, David Krumholtz is back for the moment, at least on social media, and it’s well-timed with the release of the trailer of his new deadpan-looking film, “Lousy Carter.”
The film, directed by indie filmmaker Bob Byington (2015’s “7 Chinese Brothers” with Jason Schwartzman and 2017’s “Infinity Baby”), is about a college professor with only six months left to live, and the trailer is hilariously dry.
Alongside Krumholtz, the comedy co-stars Martin Starr, Olivia Thirlby, Jocelyn DeBoer, Luxy Banner, Stephen Root, and Macon Blair (fun fact: Thirlby and Blair were also in “Oppenheimer”). Here’s the official synopsis:
In LOUSY CARTER, David Krumholtz (OPPENHEIMER) stars as a ne’er-do-well literature professor adrift on a soulless college campus who learns he only has six months to live. With the clock ticking, will he change his ways? Probably not. Auteur writer/director Bob Byington’s slyly subversive comedy also features comedy all-stars Martin Starr, Olivia Thirlby, Jocelyn DeBoer, Macon Blair, and Stephen Root.
“Lousy Carter” opens in theaters and digitally on March 29, 2024, via Magnolia Pictures. Watch the first trailer below.
