It’s been quite a while since the world was graced with a new film from auteur filmmaker Todd Solondz. As a matter of fact, it’s been nearly eight years since the release of “Weiner-Dog,” which was during a time when streamers, such as Amazon in this case, would just throw money at independent films to fill out their streaming library. Well, thankfully, it appears the filmmaker has finally found his next film, “Love Child,” and he has one hell of a cast leading it.
According to Deadline, Charles Melton and Elizabeth Olsen are attached to star in Todd Solondz’s new feature, “Love Child.” The film follows the story of a young boy who devises a plan to break up his parents and find his mother a new love. But things horribly backfire, leading to unexpected consequences.

“I am beyond excited to work with Elizabeth Olsen and Charles Melton on what will be a super fun and playful celebration of Hollywood movies,” Solondz said.
Olsen added, “I am a long-time fan of Todd’s work and to collaborate with him on this film is a true dream.”
Olsen is best known for her work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, when she’s not suiting up as the Scarlet Witch, she typically sticks to the independent film circuit in projects such as “Kodachrome” and “Ingrid Goes West.” Most recently, she starred in a TIFF film, “His Three Daughters.” Melton is coming off the biggest role of his career, in Todd Haynes’ award-winning film, “May December,” which earned him a Golden Globe nomination.
Solondz is known for his dark satires that typically involved classic suburban families. He broke out in a big way with his film “Welcome to the Dollhouse,” but he has quite a few notable movies such as “Happiness,” “Storytelling,” and “Life During Wartime.”
It’s unclear when filming might begin, but this is definitely a project we’ll be keeping our eyes on.
