‘Maestro’ Trailer: Bradley Cooper’s Leonard Bernstein Epic Arrives In December With A Limited Nov Theatrical Release

Bradley Cooper arguably owes much of his recent success and directorial acclaim to Steven Spielberg and Clint Eastwood. Spielberg was going to direct “American Sniper,” but he passed on it, and Clint Eastwood made it into a massive hit for Cooper when he starred in the picture in 2014. Likewise, Eastwood was going to make “A Star Is Born,” he ultimately passed on it, and Cooper made his soaring directorial debut in 2018. Now, Cooper is about to let loose “Maestro” into the world, a biopic he directs and stars in that was originally going to be made by Steven Spielberg. One man’s trash is truly another man’s treasure.

‘Maestro’ Review: Bradley Cooper Stars In An Epic Leonard Bernstein Biopic [Venice]

Having made its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival and then also made its North American premiere at the New York Film Festival, by all accounts—especially this ravishing new trailer, “Maestro” is a rousing and passionate work from Cooper that looks towering and monumental—fitting for such a legend of the symphonic world (read our review)

Cooper stars as the iconic conductor and American musician Leonard Bernstein, Carey Mulligan stars as his lifelong love Felicia Montealegre Cohn Bernstein, and the rest of the cast includes Matt Bomer, Maya Hawke, Sarah Silverman, Josh Hamilton, Scott Ellis, Gideon Glick, Sam Nivola, Alexa Swinton, and Miriam Shor.

To circle back, Steven Spielberg stayed on the movie as a producer, along with Cooper, Kristie Mackso Krieger, Fred Burner, Amy Durning, and Martin Scorsese. To add another Spielberg-ism to the film, one of his chief writers, Josh Singer— who wrote Spielberg’s “The Post” (2017) and the filmmaker’s upcoming “Bullitt” remake that stars, who else, Bradley Cooper—is a co-writer on the movie as well (Cooper, of course, is the other credited scribe).

Here’s the official synopsis:

Maestro is a towering and fearless love story chronicling the lifelong relationship between Leonard Bernstein and Felicia Montealegre Cohn Bernstein. A love letter to life and art, Maestro, at its core, is an emotionally epic portrayal of family and love.

“Maestro” opens in select theaters on November 22 and premieres on Netflix on December 20. Watch the epic new trailer below
