In case your wish list for season 2 of “The Mandalorian” included Timothy Olyphant holding Baby Yoda in his arms, we have good news for you: there’s at least a chance that might happen. Olyphant is reportedly joining the cast of the Disney+ show to bring Western swagger to the live-action “Star Wars” show in an unknown role.
The Hollywood Reporter brings the news that the “Justified” and “Santa Clarita Diet” actor will join Temuera Morrison and Katee Sackhoff to make “The Mandalorian” even more of a gritty western. Though we don’t know what character he’ll be playing, it’s hard not to think that the show will use Olyphant’s popularity and have him play a dapper rogue or cowboy type, which could mean the show is finally bringing known bounty hunter Cad Bane to live-action.
Bane was first introduced in “The Clone Wars” animated show, becoming the “Star Wars” equivalent of Angel Eyes from “The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.” He quickly became one of the best villains in the show, a cool yet ruthless toothpick-chewing gunslinger that took no nonsense yet wasn’t above cutting a deal with the good guys every once in a while.

This would not be the first time “The Mandalorian” borrows from “The Clone Wars.” The first season ended with the reveal of the Darksaber, and season two will introduce live-action versions of Ahsoka Tano and Bo-Katan, and there’s rumors that Temuera Morrison is also playing Rex from the animated show, so it wouldn’t be out of the question for Cad Bane to also make an appearance. Of course, we would also settle for Olyphant playing Imperial Grand Admiral Thrawn, who was last seen in “Star Wars: Rebels.”
