It appears that actor-producer Margot Robbie and writer Christina Hodson enjoyed their time together on “Birds of Prey” so much that they’re willing to take their talents to the high seas, as the duo are said to be working on a new film in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise.
According to THR, Margot Robbie has signed on to star in a new female-fronted ‘Pirates’ adventure over at Disney, and she’s bringing along her “Birds of Prey” writer Christina Hodson to pen the script. And while we don’t know anything about the potential story, apparently the film isn’t being viewed as a spin-off of the long-running franchise starring Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow and instead, is a brand-new tale featuring new characters that will just carry the ‘Pirates’ brand. So, not a reboot, remake, sequel, or spin-off. Just a new “Pirates of the Caribbean” film. Okay, then.

The report also claims that Robbie’s new ‘Pirates’ film will not have anything to do with the upcoming reboot that was already announced with Craig Mazin (of “Chernobyl” fame) writing the script. These two films are both being developed and will be completely separate from each other.
Robbie is one of the biggest actresses working today, with the aforementioned “Birds of Prey” being her most recent feature. She’s also appeared in a number of high-profile roles, including two Oscar-nominated performances in films “Bombshell” and “I, Tonya.”
Hodson is probably best known for her scripts for “Birds of Prey” and “Bumblebee.” She’s one of the biggest up-and-coming writers, especially over at Warner Bros. where she’s currently working on “Batgirl” and “The Flash” (which recently announced the addition of Michael Keaton to the cast). She’s also rumored to be one of the creative forces that will continue to shape the DCEU in the future.

It’s unclear when we might see this new ‘Pirates’ film, but with Robbie attached, the franchise has just gotten a much-needed shot in the arm. We’ll just have to see if Disney’s plan to expand the franchise will pay off or not.
